Sara is a music therapist and music educator and has a passion for world music. She came across Taiko at one of Midnight Taiko’s workshops and immediately fell in love with the art of Japanese drumming. She was struck by the combination of the physicality – similar to martial arts – as well as the music. Since Sara holds a brown belt in Karate, she felt right at home learning to drum powerfully with control. Sara joined the group as an apprentice in late 2014 and looks forward to crafting her art with her fellow colleagues.
When she is not playing taiko, Sara plays classical piano, clarinet, guitar, and gender wayang (Balinese instrument) with the World Music Ensemble at the University of Calgary. She also practices yoga and writes for the National Music Centre.
